Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen called for joint efforts to reduce the dumping of waste into sewers, canals and rivers, while currently Phnom Penh alone has 3,000 tons of waste per day.

The premier spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Japan-aided sewage treatment plant in Phnom Penh on Tuesday (22 Feb).

"Our concern is that people refuse to clean up by themselves," said the premier, adding that the "waste collectors are not able to collect every waste we dumped outside the bins."

The premier continued, waste segregation has been implemented, but people refused to follow, which cause a huge problem for the dumpsite.

Samdech added that people who throw their waste outside the trash bin should be ashamed of children who have done it properly.
