Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 24 – Malaysian prime minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob considered the official visit of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen to Myanmar in early January as a stepping stone for further progress of the implementation of the five-point consensus (5PC).

Malaysian prime minister spoke at the joint press conference with premier Hun Sen on Thursday at Peace Palace.

“In frankly speaking, premier Hun Sen’s recent visit to Myanmar is to bring the voice of ASEAN to Myanmar. It is a stepping stone to push the implementation of the 5PC and I believed that Myanmar will understand the ASEAN's objective of seeking peace for the people of Myanmar,” the Malaysian premier underlined.

Dato Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob expressed full support to Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 under the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together”.

The two Leaders agreed to continue working closely in strengthening the ASEAN Community and addressing regional and international issues under the ASEAN frameworks and other multilateral mechanisms for the common goal of maintaining the ASEAN Centrality, unity, peace, stability, sustainable development and prosperity in the region and beyond, according to the joint statement seen by Fresh News on Thursday.
