Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 25 – While Vladimir Putin was signing documents recognising the independence of Donbass, a Kommersant reporter talked with refugees.

“On February 21, when President of Russia Vladimir Putin was holding a Security Council meeting and delivering a long address to explain the reasons for recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, Kommersant reporter Alexander Chernykh talked with Donetsk evacuees. As expected, they supported the decision to recognise their independence, even though they hoped to become part of Russia. A cameraman, a young mother, a pensioner, a teacher and a schoolgirl told Kommersant when and why they had stopped regarding themselves as Ukrainian citizens.”
