Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 27 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen shared some insights on Russia-Ukraine crisis, speaking in an exclusive interview with Fresh News CEO Lim Chea Vutha on Sunday .
“In my personal opinion, the Russian forces may not be able to overthrow Ukraine through the use of military mean and it is the same for Ukraine. The only possible solution is peaceful negotiations,” the premier said.
“In recent large-scale clashes between Ukraine and Russia, Russian military forces have killed less than 1,000 Ukrainian forces despite taking control of some major cities. How many more days and troops do Russia needs to win this war? This may not be possible even if Russia occupies the whole Ukraine’s territory and murder or arrest the Ukraine’s president. Will the Ukrainians remain silent? Look at some countries like Iraq, Syria, Libya. Has war in those countries ended,” the premier added.
Samdech Hun Sen continued, “Russia could be embroiled in Ukrainian territory if her troops station for a long period of time on Ukrainian territory. It can be reflected from the experience of Soviet forces in Afghanistan in the 1980s as well as the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan in the 21st century. The most crucial task is to negotiate peacefully for mutual benefits in order to end the bloody war and find true peace. As I have said many times, I do not believe that war is a mean to end war. I believe in negotiations. The venue and time should not be an obstacle for negotiations. The longer it takes to start negotiation, the more painful it is for the people who are fleeing and taking refuge.”
Premier Hun Sen added, “peaceful negotiations through the win-win policy allowed Cambodia to achieve complete peace in 1998 and let her people live in peace and prosperity. Cambodia would be at war now if none peaceful negotiations were made.
Prime Minister Hun Sen called for dialogues and a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
