Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 7 – Japan’s special envoy Yohei Sasakawa strongly supported Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen’s visit to Myanmar on behalf of the ASEAN rotating chair.

Yohei Sasakawa spoke at a courtesy call on premier Hun Sen on Monday afternoon at the Peace Palace.

According to premier Hun Sen’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth, during the meeting, Yohei Sasakawa called Samdech’s visit to Myanmar a "heartfelt and practical step" to address Myanmar issues.

“The visit has given greater hope to the people of Myanmar,” Eang Sophalleth quoted the special envoy as saying.

Prime minister Hun Sen thanked Yohei Sasakawa for highly recognizing the value of his visit to Myanmar.

According to Sophalleth, Samdech said “we want to help Myanmar ends violence, and delivers aids to the needy people. The greater goal is to bring democracy to Myanmar.”

Samdech added, as the rotating chair of ASEAN, he will make efforts to resolve the crisis in Myanmar.

The premier also requested the Japan’s special envoy to continue to work with ASEAN chair’s special envoy Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn on Myanmar issues.

On that occasion, Yohei Sasakawa also asked premier Hun Sen to allow the Myanmar trainees to study the production of artificial limbs from Cambodia.

The premier welcomed and considered the request an honor for the kingdom.

Yohei Sasakawa praised premier Hun Sen’s leadership and Cambodia’s rapid development.
