Prey Veng (FN), Mar. 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen has reprimanded some analysts who misinterpreted the postponement of the ASEAN-US Special Summit, which was scheduled for 28-29 March.

The premier spoke at the inauguration ceremony of SOS Children’s Village in Prey Veng on Thursday.

Some analysts have misinterpreted the postponement of the ASEAN-US Special Summit, stating that the ASEAN-US meeting was canceled by Cambodia, pressured by China, according to the premier.

Samdech continued, in ASEAN, each country holds different responsibility. Currently, Indonesia is the country coordinator between ASEAN member states and the US, therefore it is Indonesia’s responsibility to work on setting date for the meeting.

"Setting the date of meeting is the role of Indonesia who is a country coordinator. ASEAN chair has no right to set the date,” the premier added.

According to the premier, the US probably has a tight schedule, including a visit to Europe, as well as a meeting with NATO, while some ASEAN leaders also have their own agendas.

Cambodian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Chum Sounry said that as the chair of ASEAN, Cambodia has been flexible with regards to the proposed dates and has made special arrangements on domestic agenda to fulfill its regional and international duties.
