Sihanoukville (FN), Mar. 17 – An American expert on Asia Beres Christopher said that he did not see any presence of Chinese troops in Ream Naval Base in Sihanoukville.

Beres Christopher spoke during his visit to Ream Naval Base in Sihanoukville on Thursday.

"I think it is important to tell today that I did not see any Chinese troops, any Chinese warships, Chinese hypersonic missiles at Cambodia’s naval base,” Beres Christopher underlined.

He also claimed that “the Ream Naval Base is not capable to accommodate Chinese warships and the shallow water here is not suitable for the military submarines to operate either.”

Beres Christopher added, it does not make any sense for the Chinese navy to strategically set up here. The objective of the Chinese navy is the South China Sea, not the gulf of Thailand.

“From an operational standpoint, the gulf of Thailand is not deep enough for submarines and not wide enough for surface warships,” he continued.

“From a geopolitical standpoint, it does not make sense either to have a base of Chinese warships here at Ream,” said Beres Christopher, adding that with all of these points earlier, greater conflict will rise if Chinese troops present.
