Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 18 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen called on the Cambodian people to continue to strictly implement health measures, especially the “3-Dos and 3-Don’ts”, and to get fully vaccinated both the basic and booster shots.

The premier spoke in a handover ceremony of 523,000 doses of Hungary-aided AstraZeneca vaccine on Friday (18 Mar) at the Peace Palace.

“In fact, the spread of COVID19 is still on-going and evolving, especially through the continuous mutation into new variants. With a high spirit of precaution and optimism, Cambodia has been monitoring, evaluating and paying close attention to the COVID19 situation, and has been accelerating and promoting the vaccination campaign to build herd immunity in Cambodia. In the global context, Cambodia has also contributed to the promotion of the vaccination campaigns, and highly appreciates the culture of mutual assistance, especially through the sharing of COVID19 vaccines which is very important and highly effective in preventing the spread of this deadly disease,” the premier added.

Samdech continued, Cambodia believes that vaccination is a top priority for all of us, and vaccines will continue to be a key strategic good in preventing the spread, as well as learning to live with COVID19 and reopening the socio-economic activities.

According to the premier, as of 15 March 2022, Cambodia is one of the most successful countries in implementing the national vaccination campaign with a vaccination coverage rate of approximately 92.27% of the total population of around 16 million. This has Cambodia to reopen the country, and maintain full socio-economic activities in all areas, despite the continuation of the spread in the community.

“Given that the new variant, Omicron, continues to cause risks and uncertainties, the Royal Government of Cambodia continues to give priority to the COVID19 vaccination campaign, by launching the National Booster-Shot Vaccination Campaign – Fourth Dose on 14 January 2022, and expanding the coverage of vaccination to children aged 3-5 on 23 February 2022. In this regard, the generous donation of COVID19 AstraZeneca vaccine from the people and government of Hungary will significantly contribute to the fight against COVID19 in Cambodia.”
