Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 21 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that information technology and digital governance system will improve the efficiency of internal administration, the sub-national level as well as providing responsive and transparent public services to the people.

The premier spoke at the official launching ceremony of the national program for sub-national democratic development phase 2, held on Monday at Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh.

"Regarding the preparation and strengthening of digital governance in the sub-national administration, we must strive to promote the establishment and implementation of information technology and digital governance systems in each sub-national administration in order to ensure effective internal administration, sub-national administration and communication with the people, as well as ensure the provision of public services to the people quickly, timely and transparently,” the premier underlined.

Premier Hun Sen continued that decentralization and deconcentration reforms were made to strengthen good governance, which is the core of the Royal Government's Rectangular Strategy for the past three mandates to reorganize the public administration structure and management system at the sub-national level, based on the principles of democratic development.

At the same time, the premier added that in 2020, Cambodia has completed the 10-year national program phase 1 (2010-2020), with significant achievements.

According to premier Hun Sen, the reform has made the sub-national administration more capable and responsible in promoting local economic development and the provision of public services in resolve challenges in a timely manner to the people in their jurisdiction effectively. Currently, Cambodia has gained enough experience to continue to strengthen reform of the sub-national administration to contribute to the national post-COVID19 economic recovery.
