Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen ordered all relevant authorities to jointly crack down and eliminate all fishing crimes in Tonle Sap Lake, speaking at annual meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Wednesday.

The premier’s order was made after illegal fishing activities and encroachment on flooded forest land continue.

The premier also ordered the provincial governors to lay out plans to effectively crack down on illegal fishing activities, and ordered the use of helicopters in the operation.

On that occasion, Samdech also recalled his order 10 years ago to abolish the fishing lots and establish a fishing community instead as the fishing lots seriously affected the people, causing fatality and imprisonment.

Premier Hun Sen also issued an order to crack down forest crimes.
