Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 25 – Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn met with Huawei Asia Pacific Regional president Lin Baifeng at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Phnom Penh. The day before, Cambodian minister of post and telecommunications Chea Vandeth also received a courtesy visit from Lin Baifeng. The two meetings focused on sharing Huawei’s latest global developments, the best paths to advancing Cambodia digital infrastructure roll-out, ICT talent cultivation, as well as many other topics of shared interest.

During the meeting with foreign minister Prak Sokhonn commended Huawei for being one of the world’s leading technology companies and for its varied collaborations in helping to accelerate Cambodia’s digital development. He also recognized and praised Huawei’s efforts despite it facing ongoing geopolitical pressures and the global pandemic.

In the meeting with Cambodian minister of post and telecommunications Chea Vandeth expressed similar gratitude to Huawei for its long-running central role in Cambodia’s telecommunications development over the last 23 years. He also expressed his ambition that Huawei could contribute even more in terms of helping Cambodia’s youth boost their ICT work skills, assist in the nurturing of local digital ecosystems and start-ups as well as provide guidance and inputs into national ICT policy planning, data and cyber security management.

During these two high-level meetings, Lin Baifeng briefed both the Cambodian foreign minister and the minister of post and telecommunications on Huawei Group’s latest financial results, global 5G achievements, as well as Huawei’s employment and ICT talent cultivation efforts in Cambodia. He also responded in kind and pledged that Huawei would put even more efforts into ICT training and business support activities for both students and startup companies in Cambodia. Such public-private sector partnerships could provide one of the best ways to accelerate digital economic development for Cambodia and boost its societal welfare and international competitiveness.
