Phnom Penh (FN), Arp. 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen explained the differences between the France-developed international airports, and the new China-developed Siem Reap-Angkor Airport.

The premier spoke during an inspection of the new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport on Sunday (Apr 3).

Regarding the France-developed airports, Cambodia contributed a large amount of capital to join the French company, while for the new Siem Reap International Airport, the kingdom only provides land and the Chinese side invested with a capital of nearly USD 1 billion, the premier underlined.

Since current Siem Reap Airport is under French management, the Royal Government of Cambodia must provide reasonable compensation to the French company when the new Siem Reap Airport opens, the premier added.

Samdech continued, the new airport project was made to serve the needs of the people and the development of the kingdom’s aviation sector.

According to the premier, the construction of the new Siem Reap-Angkor Airport follows a BOT (build, operate and transfer) investment, meaning that the Chinese company will entirely invest in the construction of the new airport; manage it for 55 years; and transfer the ownership to Cambodia.
