Siem Reap (FN), Apr. 4 – Cambodia prime minister Hun Sen said that the statement made by some groups that “the longer Hun Sen leads, the poorer his people become” does not reflect the reality of Cambodian development process.

The premier spoke at the inauguration for the official use of 38 roads in Siem Reap on Monday (Apr 4).

“Cambodia's economy has grown thanks to peace, which improves the living standard of citizens. We should compare what we had in 1979 and what we have in the present. Back in 1979, our people could not even afford proper shoes to wear. Then, in the 1980s, we were able to own bicycles, and then motorbikes, and now cars. As a result, it is the fruitful result from peace and socio-economic development,” the premier underlined.

In 2021, GDP per capita was USD 1,730 and expected to increase up to USD 1,842 in 2022, according to Ministry of Economy and Finance.
