Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 12 – The ambassador of the Republic of India to Cambodia Devyani Khobragade praised Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen for effective control of COVID19 pandemic.

The ambassador spoke during the handover ceremony of India-aided COVID19 vaccines on Tuesday at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

“On behalf of the Quad partners (the United States, Australia, Japan and India), the ambassador lauded premier’s Hun Sen’s efforts in controlling the COVID19 pandemic in Cambodia, which has contributed to the reopening of the socio-economic activities, especially lifting the restriction of social gathering,” the ambassador underlined.

"The Royal Government of Cambodia, led by premier Hun Sen, truly deserved the praise for the successful vaccination against the disease," ambassador added.

In fact, with a proactive spirit and diligent efforts to find vaccines and launch a national vaccination campaign in February 2021, Cambodia was able to achieve full herd immunity in just about eight months. This brilliant achievement has allowed Cambodia to reopen the country in all sectors on 1 November 2021, and be able to maintain normal socio-economic activities up until now despite continued threats from the spread of COVID19, especially the Omicron variant.

Cambodia has so far vaccinated nearly 93 percent of the total population. More than 8 million people have received third dose and more than 1.2 million received the fourth shot.
