Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that Japan contributed to the peace building and the ending of the civil war in the kingdom, speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Phnom Penh Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Phase IV on Wednesday (20 Apr).

“Japan contributed to the peace building of the kingdom by organizing a forum for discussion on the establishment of the Supreme National Council in Japan under the leadership of former Japanese prime minister Toshiki Kaifu, who passed away a few months ago,” the premier underlined.

Samdech continued, Japan also participated in the implementation of the Paris Peace Agreement by sending Japanese troops to Cambodia. Later on, Japan co-chaired with France to provide assistances to the kingdom and Japan has continuously assisted the kingdom during difficult time.

The year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of Japan’s contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) in Cambodia, and the year 2023 will mark as the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic ties.
