Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen called on citizens to get booster shots in order to build a herd immunity, speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Phnom Penh Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Phase IV on Wednesday (20 Apr).

"We must do our best to build herd immunity. Therefore, I would like to take this occasion to urge all citizens to get the third or fourth dose of COVID19 vaccine," the premier underlined.

“So far, 14 million people of the kingdom’s total population have received a base dose of the COVID19 vaccine; with only 8 million have received third dose and more than 1 million have received the fourth shot. Therefore, I would like to launch the vaccination campaign among factory workers, sellers in the market, and other informal economy workers as they are the most vulnerable to the COVID19 outbreak,” the premier underlined.

“As a result, if herd immunity becomes stronger, mask mandate is no longer required,” the premier added.

On 10 April 2022, Cambodia decided to place four provinces no longer required to wear masks. The four provinces are Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear.
