Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 29 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged Cambodia-Japan armed forces to further promote cooperation in existing programs, in particular a joint training on emergency disaster relief and counter-terrorism.

The premier spoke in the courtesy call by chief of staff, joint staff of the Japan self-defense forces Yamazaki Koji at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh on Friday (29 Apr).

Yamazaki lauded Cambodia for sending peacekeepers to the United Nations peacekeeping missions. He also informed the premier that his visit to Cambodia is to further strengthen and expand defense cooperation in accordance with the joint declaration between the two leaders.

Yamasaki briefed that he had a working meeting with Cambodian commander-in-chief of the Royal Armed Forces Vong Pisen and Cambodian army commander Hun Manet on the long-term cooperation in national defense, which focuses on training for emergency humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and counter-terrorism as well as achieving Free and Open Indo-Pacific.

In response, premier Hun Sen thanked and fully supported all the works the two armies had done.
