Phnom Penh (FN), May 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen stated that if the Royal Government did not take timely measures to control and fight against COVID19, people would not able to have fun during the Khmer New Year holidays.

The premier spoke in the meeting with 1,753 Grade A high school students in Phnom Penh.

"If we did not do it [COVID19 control] well, we would not have a happy Khmer New Year like in the past. After the new year, we also continued to monitor the situation. Fortunately, the infection rate decreased. Then we decided to lift mask mandate for open public spaces,” the premier underlined.

The premier added that fighting with invisible enemies is a big problem that requires efforts and timely management.

Samdech continued, he is proud that his people trust him and they have implemented the Royal Government’s measures in order to combat COVID19 despite the ill-intended movement against the vaccination.

Cambodia has so far vaccinated more than 93 percent of the total population. Nearly 9 million people received third dose and more than 1.7 million received the fourth shot.
