Phnom Penh (FN), May 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the establishment of Samdech Techo Voluntary Youth Doctor Association (TYDA) was a forward-thinking move that helps the kingdom effectively overcame COVID19.

The premier spoke in a meeting with Samdech Techo Voluntary Youth Doctor Association (TYDA) on Tuesday (17 May).

"The preparation of youth [young doctors] to fight against COVID19 was indeed visionary. Some people may think this institution is a waste of money [...] So far, if you take a look at their activities in the fight against COVID19, it can be considered visionary," the premier underlined.

On this occasion, the premier thanked TYDA leaders and voluntary doctors for their assistances in the fight against COVID19. He also thanked parents, husband and wife of the doctors for allowing their beloved persons to participate in this battle.

Premier Hun Sen believed that it was not easy to gather people to join the COVID19 battle, but due to patriotism, many doctors volunteer to sacrifice their happiness to assist the kingdom in the fight against the pandemic.

TYDA was established on 17 December 2012 under the direct initiative of premier Hun Sen and his spouse Bun Rany Hun Sen. The team is led by the premier’s eldest son Hun Manet and his spouse Pich Chanmony to provide medical treatment to the poor households nationwide, regardless of political affiliation.
