Phnom Penh (FN), May 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen advised the Ministry of Health to speed up the establishment of a homegrown COVID19 vaccine factory, while the Chinese side awaits a response, speaking in a meeting with TYDA on Tuesday (17 May).

If the private sector that has been granted license to establish the factory does not speed up, the license shall be revoked and handed over to the ministry, the premier added.

“Now I tell the Health Ministry to report to me once a week about the progress of the establishment of the vaccine factory. You [Health Ministry] left it for a few months since China agreed […] Capital investment is not a problem as I asked the Ministry of Economy and Finance to allocate budget for the state to partner with China in this establishment," the premier underlined.

During Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn’s visit to China’s Zhejiang province from 3 to 5 December 2021, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s strong commitment to continue to provide assistance to Cambodia in the fight against the COVID19, including the support to establish COVID19 vaccines manufacturing factory in Cambodia.
