Switzerland (FN), May 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that for 24 years of Cambodia’s full peace, there have been no more war-related death, injuries, disabilities, widows and orphans.

The premier spoke during a meeting with Cambodians living in the EU, held in Zurich, Switzerland on 21 May 2022.

"No casualties, injuries, disabilities that caused by wars were reported over the past 24 years since the kingdom achieved full peace in 1998,” the premier underlined.

Samdech criticized some politicians who did not dare to acknowledge the peace of Cambodia. He also mentioned the current situation in Ukraine, which is affected by the war, and that about five million people have fled to the EU.

“For 24 years, there have been no refugees in Cambodia as well, but there may be refugees fleeing floods to safe areas,” the premier added.

Samdech continued, “for 24 years, there have been no roadblocks, destroyed schools, hospitals and burnt pagodas.”

Samdech underlined that the absence of war allowed the establishment of democracy and human rights, adding that bullets do not know what democracy or human rights is.

"The presence of peace gives us the opportunity to develop socio-economically and reduce poverty. After the war, we only had a total population of approximately five million, but now we have 17 million,” the premier added.
