Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced that the Royal Government decided to sign agreement to purchase another 104 million doses of China's COVID19 vaccine to be made in Cambodia.

The premier spoke in a special voice message on Wednesday (1 Jun).

"We decided to sign an agreement to purchase an additional 104 million doses of COVID19 vaccine, which will be produced in the kingdom for three-year supply from 2024-2026," the premier underlined.

The premier added that "for 2022 and 2023, Cambodia will continue to use the vaccine in stock through procurement and donation from friends. So far, about 9 million doses are in stock. We still have about 20 million doses to be delivered."

"COVID19 is not completely eradicated in the world, therefore we need to be prepared for the worst case scenario, in particular vaccine shortages between 2024 and 2026. Therefore, the government decided to sign an agreement to purchase 104 million doses from Cambodian Pharmaceutical Enterprise in collaboration with China's Sinovac. As agreed, approximately 35 million doses will be provided annually to the government," the premier continued.

Samdech urged citizens to get booster shots to fight against the pandemic. The Royal Government pledged to continue to vaccinate citizens for free of charge.
