Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 5 – Senior official of the National Election Committee Dim Sovannarom rejected a video uploaded on social media showing Candle Light Party members protesting at a polling station in Bak Dao commune, Ksach Kandal district, Kandal province.

Sovannarom said it was an old footage happened since May 2022, and the intention of uploading the video is to confuse the general public that the election is not running smoothly.

"In fact, the communal election is held smoothly in a free and fair manner with calm situation at all the polling stations nationwide," Sovannarom said.

On behalf of the NEC, Sovannarom requested the anonymous uploader to delete the video immediately to avoid public confusion and facing legal actions in accordance with article 42 of the NEC Law, which states that the NEC shall take all possible measures to ensure that the election takes place in a free, fair and just manner.

The NEC senior official urged citizens to go to vote.
