Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 5 – Prach Chan, chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC), said perhaps there is no elections that are fair and transparent like in Cambodia.

Local and international observers as well as medias representing competing political parties were present at the polling stations, and that ballot counting took place at the polling stations with doors open.

Prach Chan stated at the press conference on communal election held on Sunday (Jun 5).

"Some political parties that lose the election always criticized the electoral process," the chairman said.

He added that the NEC has worked hard to make the election fair, transparent, truthful and free of fraud, yet there are always baseless accusations made by political parties that lose the seats.

At least 7.1 million people came to vote among the 9.2 million registered voters, an equivalent to 77.9 per cent, according to the NEC chairman.

Prach Chan said voter turnout rate is high compared to other countries in the world. He added that the whole electoral process is held in a calm, non-violent and non-threatening environment.
