Phnom Penh (FN), Jun 13 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to more than 80 per cent of the total registered voters who participated in the 5th mandate communal election, which was held on 5 June 2022.

The premier spoke at the graduation ceremony of the students from the Royal School of Administration on Monday (Jun 13).

"I would like to thank more than 80 percent of the total registered voters who went to the polls nationwide. Despite the negative views from the extremist groups, no case of conflict, violence or coercion were reported,” the premier underlined.

"I thanked the citizens who have exercised their rights, the rights to choose their favored leader," the premier continued.

Samdech also thanked and lauded the Election Security Management Committee led by Cambodian interior minister Sar Kheng for doing a great job during the election process by maintaining security and order under the command and management of the National Election Committee (NEC).

"The communal election which was held in a calm, politically-neutralized, free, and just climate reflects the political maturity of Cambodia. Political parties got notified six months prior to the election, therefore they are ready to participate in the election. Bear in mind that Cambodia’s democratic process is different from those of other countries," the premier added.

Premier Hun Sen also thanked and congratulated the National Election Committee for successfully organizing the election and also thanked the people who voted for the Cambodian People's Party (CPP). Samdech considered that their support for the CPP means support for peace and development.

On 6 June 2022, the National Election Committee (NEC) announced that 80.19 per cent of Cambodian registered voters casted a vote in the 5th mandate communal election.
