Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 13 – Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn, in his capacity as the ASEAN chair's special envoy, will arrange his second visit to Myanmar scheduled at the end of June, stressing that the engagement with all parties concerned would be one among his focuses then in accordance to the mandate of the special envoy.

The statement was made in a meeting held on Monday (Jun 13) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation during visit of secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia Kathryn Campbell to Cambodia on 12-14 June 2022.

"Prak Sokhonn shared with Kathryn Campbell the development of the situation in Myanmar, underlining the complexity of the crisis and the facing challenges in finding a suitable solution that require the understanding, patience and restraint from all parties concerned as well as the joint efforts, unity and solidarity among all ASEAN member states and stakeholders," according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Monday (Jun 13).

"Prak Sokhonn highlighted the progress in the implementation of the 5 Point Consensus on Myanmar, including his efforts to lay the ground work during his first visit to Myanmar on 21-22 March 2022 for the 3 immediate priorities, namely: (1) Cessation of violence, (2) Ensuring timely delivery of humanitarian assistance without discrimination, and (3) Building conducive environment for an inclusive political dialogue to resolve Myanmar crisis. He also underscored the three main outcomes achieved by the Consultative Meeting on Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar hosted by Cambodia on 6 May 2022, namely: (1) The Arrangement Framework for the delivery of ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance, (2) Addressing the operational challenges of delivering humanitarian assistance and (3) Framework for COVID19 Vaccine Administration.

Kathryn Campbell appreciated the efforts undertaken by Cambodian premier Hun Sen and foreign minister Prak Sokhonn to find solution to the current crisis in Myanmar and assured Australia’s support for Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN.
