Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 22 – Cambodian defense minister Tea Banh, in his capacity as the host of the 16th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (16th ADMM), urged Myanmar to speed up the implementation of ASEAN five-point consensus in order to avoid negative effects on ASEAN unity and solidarity.

The defense minister spoke during the 16th ADMM and related meetings held on Wednesday (Jun 22) at the Ministry of Defense.

"The current priority is to speed up the implementation of the ASEAN five-point consensus. All concerned parties shall have the willingness to implement the consensus effectively and bring normalcy back to Myanmar as well as strengthen ASEAN unity and solidarity,” defense minister underlined.

In May 2022, during the video call between Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and Myanmar’s senior general Minh Aung Hlaing, premier Hun Sen highlighted widely expressed aspiration from all quarters to see more speedy progress on achieving three immediate priorities of the 5PC.

The three immediate priorities of the 5PC include (1) cessation of violence, (2) unhindered humanitarian delivery to all the people in most need and (3) building trust and confidence to engender an inclusive political dialogue.
