Phnom Penh (FN), Jul 28 – Cambodian minister of Justice Koeut Rith said that the submission of petition to the National Assembly by four political parties over the 10th constitutional amendment was intended only to serve their own political agendas in the future.

The minister spoke in the 7th session of the National Assembly of the 6th legislature, held on Thursday (Jul 28).

"The disagreement of the four political parties on the 10th constitutional amendment is typical but it was not made to protect the parliamentary regime nor liberal multi-party democracy, but to serve their own political agendas in the future,” Koeut Rith underlined.

Koeut Rith added, the main point of the 10th constitutional amendment is to ensure that state institutions, in particular the Royal Government, run smoothly and sustainably in all circumstances without any restraint.

On 21 July 2022, the four political parties, namely the Candlelight Party, the Grassroots Democratic Party, the Khmer Will Party and the Cambodian Reform Party, submitted a petition to the National Assembly expressing their dissatisfactions with the 10th constitutional amendment and additional constitution.
