Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 5 – Cambodian army commander lieutenant general Hun Manet appreciated the government and people of Australia for their support in the kingdom's development process and recalled the long-standing of Cambodia-Australia friendship, which has lasted for 70 years since 1952.

Hun Manet held a meeting with visiting Australian foreign minister Penny Wong on Friday (Aug 5) in Phnom Penh.

Hun Manet thanked Australia's contributions to Cambodia’s peace seeking and her leading role during the UN peacekeeping mission in Cambodia. In addition, Australia has strongly supported the education, human resources and advanced English language training for Cambodian people, as well as the support on mine clearances in the kingdom.

Manet sincerely hopes that the two nations will further strengthen the close cooperation for mutual benefits.

In response, Penny Wong thanked Cambodia for supporting Australia's activities in the international forums. She praised the kingdom's rapid development and pledged to further support Cambodia's development.

The two sides pledge to jointly maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
