Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 11 – Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) allegedly charged Candlelight Party vice president Son Chhay with defamation on the complaint filed by the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), according to the court order seen by Fresh News on Thursday (Aug 11).

On 14 June 2022, the ruling CPP sued Son Chhay over allegations and distortions surrounding the 5th mandate communal election.

The CPP sought legal action and demanded USD 1 million in compensation. CPP lawyer Ky Tech highlighted some remarks of Son Chhay speaking on media outlets, which were considered fraudulent, misrepresented, information, fake and ill-intended purpose to seriously damage the reputation of the CPP who won the election.
