Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 13 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Socio Cultural Community (ASCC) has an even more important role in promoting the spirit and joint efforts to further promote economic development, strengthen regional security and political stability as well as enhance ASEAN solidarity by focusing on four priorities.

The premier spoke at the opening of the 28th ASEAN Socio-cultural community council meeting, held on Thursday (Oct 13) in Phnom Penh.

The premier is truly proud of the noticeable progress that we have achieved including the promotion of social protection for immigrant workers, social safety and well-being, and the promotion of women’s entrepreneurship, innovative and cultural industries, etc. These achievements are stemming from our adherence to the spirit of promoting multilateralism, non-interference in domestic affairs, consensus, enhancing dialogues, mutual understanding and implementing the principle of “Unity in Diversity”.

“At the same time, with our collective endeavors, the success in managing the spread of COVID19 pandemic has given us the opportunity to fully resume economic and social activities, and to accelerate the implementation of strategies for social and economic recovery,” the premier said.

“On this basis, cooperation within the framework of the ASCC has an even more important role in promoting the spirit and joint efforts to further promote economic development, strengthen regional security and political stability as well as enhance ASEAN solidarity by focusing on four priorities: (1). enhance ASEAN values, awareness, and identity; (2). Promote human resource development and women empowerment; (3) Enhance health, well-being, and social protection and; (4). Strengthen ASEAN Socio-cultural Community’s institutional capacity and effectiveness,” the premier underscored.
