Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged all agricultural officials and local authorities to tackle people’s problems on a timely manner, speaking at the graduation ceremony on Monday (Oct 17) in Phnom Penh.

The premier said that the impact assessment must be done immediately and after the assessment, the seeds must be delivered to the people for cultivations without delays.

Samdech continued, the Royal Government of Cambodia has stockpiled strategic seeds to prevent any risks that can lead to a shortage of seeds for cultivation.

"The relevant provincial authorities must be close to the people. The mechanism of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries must act quickly with the Economic Policy Committee, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance to assess the damage and supply the seeds immediately for the people,” the premier added.

On that occasion, premier thanked the philanthropists, including the Cambodian Red Cross, who distributed aids to flood victims.

According to the assessment, more than 19,000 families were affected by floods in 2022, the premier added.

On October 8, premier Hun Sen ordered acting minister of agriculture, forestry and fisheries Aun Pornmoniroth to assign experts to assess the damage scale of agriculture caused by floods and prepare the distributions of rice seeds and crops to assist flood victims.
