Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked Timorese president José Manuel Ramos Horta to encourage Timorese businessmen to invest in rice mills and directly purchase rice from Cambodia.

The premier spoke in a courtesy call by Timorese president, held on Thursday afternoon (Oct 20) at the Peace Palace.

Timorese president thanked the premier and the Royal Government for providing assistances in various sectors such as development, national building, social stability, and supporting Timor-Leste's ASEAN membership, and offering COVID19 vaccines and other medical equipment.

He also informed the premier the kingdom’s rapid development and better Cambodia-Timor relations and cooperation.

In this regard, Timorese president vowed to enhance relations and cooperation between the two nations in term of trade and intend to have direct flights.

On this occasion, premier Hun Sen congratulated Timorese president on his election victory. Samdech thanked for appreciating the friendly relations and this year marks the 20th anniversary Cambodia-Timor-Leste diplomatic ties.

Samdech welcomed Cambodia-Timor-leste direct flight as it contributes to enhance trade cooperation between the two countries.

Regarding the trade cooperation, Timorese president desired to expand in agricultural sector. As a result, Samdech asked to encourage Timorese businessmen to invest rice mills and directly purchase rice from Cambodia.

Cambodia has allowed to have 100 percent of foreign investment, which is an important factor for Timorese investors.
