Kampong Chhnang (FN), Oct. 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen advised Cambodian minister of land management Chea Sophara to allocate lands for citizens in zone 3 of Tonle Sap Lake before Khmer New Year 2023.

The premier spoke in a meeting with flood victims in Kampong Chhnang on Wednesday morning (Oct 26).

“Chea Sophara shall work with the provincial governors and relevant authorities to finish the land allocations before the Khmer New Year 2023,” the premier underscored.

The premier expressed regret that he signed the sub-decree in 2012 without paying attention to the revision of Zone 3, Zone 2 and Zone 1 in the Tonle Sap Lake. Fortunately, the government has found a solution for people to live and a mechanism to protect the Tonle Sap Lake.

"In recent years, our people around Tonle Sap have been living with uncertainties. Today, I have a specific message for Tonle Sap residents. I just take back the land invaded by the powerful people and ill-intended people. We need to replant the flood forests for citizens,” the premier added.

Samdech called on citizens not to cut down the flooded forests in the Tonle Sap Lake, but to take care of them. It is a habitat for spawning fish and bring many benefits for people’s livelihoods.
