Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said the change of British prime minister has helped the critics better understand the kingdom’s constitutional amendment that granted power to the National Assembly.

The premier spoke at the graduation ceremony held on Tuesday (Nov 1) at OCIC, Phnom Penh.

"On the recent development of UK politics, some people should better understand constitutional monarchy parliamentary in the UK, which the parliament does not play much significant role compared to that of Cambodia,” the premier said.

The premier explained that in UK, when Liz Truss was elected to become the prime minister, she did not require the vote of confidence from the parliament. She just paid call on Queen Elizabeth II. Moreover, she did not need the approval from the parliament to appoint new minister.

For Cambodia, although the king appointed the prime minister, it still requires the vote of confidence from the National Assembly. Then, the National Assembly proposed to the king to appoint the government. This is the important role of Cambodia’s parliament.
