Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 10 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that becoming a club member clearly reflects a new turning point for a better change in Cambodia’s coastal areas in terms of socio-economic, tourism, urbanization and environmental aspects.

The premier spoke at the 16th World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club, held on Saturday (Dec 10) at Sokha Beach Resort, Preah Sihanouk Province.

“Becoming a club member clearly reflects a new turning point for a better change in Cambodia’s coastal areas in terms of socio-economic, tourism, urbanization and environmental aspects, which are the determining factors for international recognition of Cambodia Bay,” the premier underlined.

“This work has enabled Cambodia’s coastal areas to play an important role in attracting investment to promote national economic growth, and be considered as an enticing and highly competitive tourist destination in Cambodia and in the region, after the cultural-historical heritage sites of Siem Reap-Angkor and Phnom Penh,” the premier added.

Samdech continued, “Cambodia Bay was admitted as a member of the World-Bays Club at the Club’s 7th World Congress on 26 May 2011 in Toubacouta, Senegal, under the common name of “Cambodia Bay”, nicknamed “Cambodia Bay: The Rising Star of the Southwest”.

“For almost 3 years, we have been very pleased to witness that the whole world has united and worked together to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in a spirit of mutual understanding and assistance and, in particular, to win in the fight against this disease, so that we can reopen our countries and start to recover our respective economies.”

“To promote the recovery and nurture the tourism sector, the RGC has adopted the Roadmap for Recovery of Cambodia Tourism During and Post COVID-19 on 30 March 2021, in which coastal tourism is one of the four pillars including, Cultural Heritage, Coastal Tourism, Eco-Tourism and Cambodianess. On these bases, we expect to be able to receive around 11 million domestic tourists in 2023 in accordance with existing plans and around 7 million international tourists until 2026 or 2027,” the premier underscored.

Premier Hun Sen also took this opportunity to thank the Club’s Board and all members for supporting Cambodia Bay, agreeing to admit the entire bays of Cambodia as a member, continuing to support the development of Cambodia’s coastal areas in a Cambodian way, and especially electing Cambodia as the Vice President responsible for Asia-Pacific for 2 consecutive terms, and as the Deputy Director of the World-Bays Club up until now.
