Belgium (FN), Dec. 12 – Cambodian premier Hun Sen stated that the Royal Government must build three more bridges to accelerate the construction of infrastructure to promote economic development.

The premier spoke during his meeting with nearly 2,000 Cambodians living in Europe on 12 December 2022.

The three bridges will be in the location as follows:

1. A bridge crossing Mekong in Kratie province, to open in early January 2023. This bridge is necessary to connect Kratie to Kampong Thom. Before, people who travel to Kampong Thom must cross into Tbong Khmum and Kampong Cham, yet the new bridge will help connect Kratie to Kampong Thom directly.

2. A bridge in Phnom Penh is the Cambodia-Republic of Korea Friendship Bridge, which connects the Phnom Penh’s night market-Chroy Changvar and from Chroy Changvar-Arey Ksat, which has signed a loan from South Korea worth nearly USD 250 million. There are two bridges to be built, the first crossing the Tonle Sap River (starting from the area around the Night Market Park) crossing to the other side of Chroy Changvar and the second crossing the Mekong River starting from the other side of Chroy Changvar (near Sokha Hotel) towards the Arey Ksat commune in Lvea Em dstrict, Kandal Province).

3. A bridge in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov to Kandal's Lvea Em district, costing about USD 200 million. This bridge serves to connect with the expressway from Phnom Penh to Bavet, Svay Rieng province. There is no charge for crossing the bridge, except for the expressway crossing.
