Belgium (FN), Dec. 13 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that Myanmar's complex problems need at least another five years to resolve.

The premier spoke during his meeting with nearly 2,000 Cambodians living in Europe on 12 December 2022.

"I can predict that Myanmar issues need at least another five years to solve," the premier said.

Cambodia, as chair of ASEAN, has worked hard since early 2022 to help resolve Myanmar's political crisis.

Premier Hun Sen has visited Myanmar once and Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn, as the special envoy of ASEAN, has visited Myanmar twice.

Myanmar's junta on November 16, 2022 announced the releases of more than 6,000 prisoners to celebrate its national day.

The large-scale release of prisoners by the Myanmar military regime is seen as a positive development towards a solution in Myanmar, which is the hope of bringing Myanmar back to the ASEAN.

The Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair also considered the release of the large-scale prisoners as an important gesture in the right direction to create a conducive environment for the start of the dialogue process among all stakeholders in Myanmar.
