Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen recalled the gifting of made-in-Cambodia ASEAN watches to ASEAN leaders and top leaders of international institutions during the ASEAN Summits.

The premier spoke at the inauguration of a 43-kilometer road connecting Prey Nup District to Sihanoukville on Thursday morning.

Samdech claimed that the made-in-Cambodia ASEAN watches were made by a private company as a courtesy of the government to gift to ASEAN leaders. It reflects Cambodia's slogan "Khmer Can Do".

"I would like to inform you that the Royal Government did not spend any money on this watch. This is the technology of our local company, which has trained human resources for the productions. We want to show our foreign friends that Khmer can do [...]. These watches spent almost half a million dollars," the premier underscored.

The premier's statement was made in response to critics saying the government wasted money on the gift while hosting ASEAN Summits in 2022.
