Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged citizens to jointly fight against sexual abuse and human trafficking, particularly women and girls.

The premier spoke when he and his spouse Bun Rany visited the Acting for Women in Distressing Situations (AFESIP), held on Sunday morning (Jan 1) in Phnom Penh.

"This place [new building of AFESIP] is not preparing to receive more victims. I hoped that this will be heard by everyone, in particular, men who are doing contrary to human morality. Hopefully, after the grandchildren [victims] grow up, and have a husband and families, there will be no new victims. If there are more victims, it means that sexual assault is a remaining issue for our country. We build new building not to increase the victims, but for [the current victims] have a comfortable place to live," the premier underscored.

"Today, Chou Bun Eng, who is the permanent vice chairperson of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking in persons (NCCT), is also present here. Thus, we shall jointly fight against abuses, in particular, the immoral acts committed by some men," the premier added.
