Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 29 – The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has pushed for the implementation of the "Cambodia Mine-Free by 2025 and Minimizing Unexploded Ordnance".

The commitment was made at the Extraordinary General Assembly of the CPP, which was held for two days at the 7 January Palace, Phnom Penh on 28-29 January 2023.

The Extraordinary General Assembly of the ruling party was chaired by Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, head of the CPP, honorary chairman of the party Heng Samrin, vice presidents of the party, vice chairman of the party and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee as well as senior officials and representatives of party committees, ministries, institutions, capitals, provinces, municipalities, Sangkat and districts, as well as party organizations.

Implementing the "Cambodia Mine-Free by 2025 and Minimizing Unexploded Ordnance" strategy is one of the five strategies set by the CPP for the next five years to achieve great achievements in all areas and continue to achieve the vision of Cambodia 2030 as a high middle income country.

First deputy chief of the Mine Authority Ly Thuch said that with the support of the Samdech Techo Mine Action Project, the Cambodian Mine Action Fund 2025 and its development partner, the Mine Clearance Plan for 2023, covers an area of approximately 411 square kilometers. Therefore, after 2023, Cambodia will have 18 capitals and provinces to declare mine free.
