Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 17 – Russia claimed dose not interfere in Cambodia’s internal affairs regarding the shutdown of VOD media outlet.
Press attaché Mr. Rafael Iangareev said during a press briefing on the foreign policy of the Russian Federation, including the recent developments around Ukraine, held on Friday (Feb. 17) at the embassy.
"This decision was made by the Ministry of Information of Cambodia. Therefore, the Russian Federation has never interfered in the internal affairs of any country,” Rafael Iangareev responded to a question from Fresh News regarding the shutdown of VOD.
The shutdown was seen by the west as an oppression of freedom of expression. In this case, Russia underlined that the United States and its allies claimed to be defending the right to freedom of expression, but in fact, they have shut down Russian media outlets in their respective countries and broadcasted only their own opinions.
On 13 February 2023, Cambodian Ministry of Information announced to revoke the license of the Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM), which is the VOD's broadcast management center.
