Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 22 – On 21 March 2023, the Mekong Centre for Strategic Studies of the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) organised the launching ceremony of the “Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat Project” at Jaya Smart Office, Phnom Penh. The event was presided over by Sok Siphana, senior advisor to the Royal Government of Cambodia, and chairman of the Board of Directors of AVI; Suos Yara, M.P., chairman of the Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information and Media of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and director general of the Asian Cultural Council; Sok Soken, secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and vice chairman of the National Secretariat of Cambodia for the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation; Wang Wentian, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia; and Chheng Kimlong, executive vice president of AVI, and project director of the Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat Project.

"The official launching of the Project was followed by a panel discussion under a topic: “Mekong-Lancang Cooperation and the Community of Shared Future in the Mekong Region”. Three prominent panellists from AVI shared their in-depth views on the roles of the Project as well as the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation in building a community of shared future, the diamond cooperation between Cambodia and China, and the roles of youth in foreign policy and peace building. After a fruitful discussion, the launching ceremony was successfully concluded with a great optimism that the Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat Project will act as a platform for relevant stakeholders to build peace, friendship and a prosperous community," according to the AVI's press release seen by Fresh News on Wednesday (Mar 22).
