Kampong Cham (FN), Jun. 16 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the draft law on the amendment to the election law has been sent to the National Assembly.

The premier spoke on Friday (June 16) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kampong Cham province.

The intention of the amendment is to prevent any disruption or damage to the elections, the premier added.

On 12 June 2023, premier Hun Sen said in a voice message ordering interior minister Sar Kheng and justice minister Koeut Rith to study and amend laws to remove right to stand as candidate at elections for any individual who does not go to vote.

If one does not go to vote, one would not be able to stand as candidate at elections, including communal council election and general election.
