Kampong Cham (FN), Jun. 16 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen ordered the armed forces in the Military Region 1 (MR1) to cooperate with the Vietnamese authorities to prevent the rebels, who attacked Viet Nam recently, from crossing border to Cambodia illegally.

The premier spoke on Friday morning (Jun 16) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kampong Cham province.

Samdech suspected that the leader of the rebel groups is hiding in Cambodia and the premier urged the authorities to pay close attention to the inspection, not only in Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri, but also in other provinces such as Kratie, Tbong Khmum, Prey Veng and Kampong Cham.

Samdech expressed concern that rebels may take refuge under the label of HCR (Human Rights Organization) in Phnom Penh. Samdech issued a warning to international organizations and foreigners, as well as Cambodians who conspired to bring the rebels to Phnom Penh. Cambodia did not allow the asylum of the rebels fleeing Viet Nam to Cambodia. If we found them, we will extradite them back to Viet Nam.

“This is a serious situation that I must address. Dear all international organizations, including the United Nations, this is not seeking political asylum or higher economic benefits, but an act of terrorism or a catastrophic threat to the lives and property of the Vietnamese people,” the premier underlined.

According to Channel News Asia, the death toll following gun attacks on two police headquarters in Viet Nam's Central Highlands has risen to nine, including four officers, authorities said on Monday (Jun 12).

Twenty-six people have been arrested in connection with the rare shootings that occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Cu Kuin district of Dak Lak province, according to the website of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Viet Nam.
