Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 19 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked the French Republic and the European Union to further provide grant aid to Cambodia to build Water Treatment Plant Phase 3.

The premier spoke on Monday morning (Jun 19) at an inauguration of the Bakheng Water Treatment Plant in Phnom Penh.

"I would like to request the French ambassador to Cambodia to negotiate with the European Bank and the European Union to offer additional grant aid for the phase 3. I would like to thank in advance. I request for the needs of my people," the premier underscored.

On that occasion, Samdech expressed his deep gratitude to the government of the France for their continuous support for Cambodia's development, including clean water projects. Therefore, Samdech hoped the French Development Agency (AFD) will further assist in the next projects.

On that occasion, Samdech underlined that France has significantly contributed to developing water treatment plants in Cambodia, including the plant in Niroth, Prek Pnov district, and the plant in Bak Kheng, Chroy Changva district.

According to the premier, Bakheng Water Treatment Plant Phase 1 cost USD 247 million. The French Development Agency (AFD) granted USD 85 million, the European Investment Bank (EIB) granted USD 100 million, and the EU granted USD 15 million. The Royal Government was responsible for taxes on the import of materials.
