Svay Rieng (FN), Jun. 25 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the peace policy between Cambodia and Viet Nam has promoted an outstanding trade cooperation between the two countries.

The premier spoke on Sunday morning (Jun 25) during his meeting with more than 20,000 workers in Svay Rieng.

Premier Hun Sen said, “would factories exist today if we had conflicts with Viet Nam? The politics of the opposition and extremist groups deceives us by calling for hostility to neighbouring countries. It is the most dangerous policy for the country.”

As a leader who brought an end to the war, I set two goals after war ended. First, to transform former battlefield areas to development zones; and the second goal is to transform a disputed border into a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development. Through these goals, Cambodia-Vietnam border cooperation has achieved success through the increasing number of factories and industrial zones.

Cambodia and Viet Nam two-way trade volume reached USD 10.5 billion in 2022, a 10 per cent increase compared to 2021.

Samdech continued, “the policy of peace does not apply only to Viet Nam, but also to Thailand that led to setting up special economic zones in Banteay Meanchey province and Koh Kong province.”
