Phnom Penh (FN), Jun 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged judges to use mediation mechanisms to the best of their ability in resolving civil cases, speaking on Monday (June 26) during an official inauguration of a new building of the Court of Justice of the Ministry of Justice.

For divorce cases, the premier instructed the judge to try to mediate the dispute between the parties and not to encourage divorce.

Premier Hun Sen encouraged the role of judges to be more active in resolving disputes, mediation and settlement disputes as soon as possible. The premier added that according to the Cambodian Code of Civil Procedure, judges can mediate and reconcile between the parties to end disputes in civil cases, and this mediation can be done at all stages of court proceedings.

On that occasion, Samdech underlined that legal and judicial reform is a priority in the agenda and political program of the Royal Government to promote good governance and rule of law in accordance with the kingdom’s Constitution.
