Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 14 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen called on the French tourists to visit Cambodia and pay tribute to soldiers who lost their lives during World War I at the reconstructed Monuments aux Morts.

The premier spoke on Friday (Jul 14) during an inauguration ceremony of the memorial in Phnom Penh.

"I hope that through this monument, French ambassador to Cambodia Jacques Pellet will help attract French tourists to this monument to lay wreaths and also to establish good relations between the people of Cambodia and the people of France,” the premier underlined.

At the same time, Samdech also gave permission to the Embassy of the French Republic in Cambodia to use the monument to hold any memorial services, and he announced to hand over the achievements to the Phnom Penh Capital Administration for management and maintenance.

The Monuments aux Morts is a memorial to the Cambodian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I in France. The monument was built in 1925 and was destroyed by the Khmer Rouge regime in 1975.
