Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 29 – The democratic clerk of the US Senate Appropriations Committee State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee Alex Carnes congratulated Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet on his recent appointment and considered it a new chapter in the elevated Cambodia-US relations.

Premier Hun Manet warmly welcomed the visit of a delegation of US Senate officials to the Cambodia, reflecting improved relations between Cambodia and the United States.

Manet also thanked the government and people of the United States for their roles in contributing to the development of Cambodia by supporting Cambodia’s democratic process, human resource training, demining; and for offering a wide market for Cambodia's textile and garment products through the GSP system, COVID19 vaccines, and financial assistance for health sector and economic recovery.

Manet underscored that Cambodia welcomes all initiatives and cooperation that will further improve Cambodia-US relations.

“Cambodia wishes for a good relation with the US based on mutual respect and mutual benefit by looking forward beyond political interests.”

Manet added that the 7th mandate Royal Government is ready to work with the US to further strengthen and expand relations and cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral frameworks for the common benefits of both nations.

For his part, Alex Carnes praised US-Cambodia cooperation with long-standing diplomatic ties and highly commended US involvement through social development assistance, health promotion and education in Cambodia.

Both sides also discussed various topics to enhance multi-party liberal democracy, human rights, security, safety, and socio-economic development.

Lastly, Manet wished Alex and the US Senate delegation fruitful visit to Cambodia and a safe return back to the US.
